An original telegram which reads, “Safe - Lucy.”
This was sent by Titanic survivor Lucy Ridsdale, from the rescue ship Carpathia to her sister in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The telegram (dated April 18, 1912) is handwritten in pencil on a standard “Marconi International Marine Communication Company Ltd.” form.
Miss Ridsdale was a Second Class passenger, travelling with all of her possessions in the hold of the Titanic. She was emigrating to the USA where her sisters already lived.
Miss Ridsdale never returned to England. She lived to the age of 91, and passed away on 11th January 1946.
