Titanic Deckchair Legs

RMS Titanic, 1912, White Star Heritage Collection

Two severely damaged deckchair legs, either thrown overboard or swept off deck during the Titanic's sinking.

It’s unknown how these two legs became to be separated from the rest of the chair. Splintered wood points to a violent end during the Titanic’s sinking. Two brass bolts still sit in situ, heavily corroded from spending two weeks exposed to sea salt and sunlight.

These legs were retrieved from the ocean by the crew of the Cable Ship Minia 1, sent to recover bodies from the ocean after the Titanic’s sinking.
