Construction rivet

RMS Titanic, Other White Star Line Vessels, 1912, White Star Heritage Collection

The Titanic’s steel hull was held together by more than three million rivets.

Most were bashed into the frame by hand, but the majority were inserted using hydraulic riveting.

This particular rivet was found in slipway 3 at the Harland and Wolff Shipyard in Belfast, Ireland on August 23, 1997. This was the same slipway where the keel of the Titanic was laid on March 31, 1909, and where the ship was subsequently launched on May 31, 1911.
